How to Add RAM in a Windows XP Reinstall

    • 1). Turn off the computer and disconnect the plug.

    • 2). Remove the screws on the right-hand side of the back of the computer case using a Phillips screwdriver, and then remove the side panel.

    • 3). Insert the new RAM chips into the RAM slots located next to the processor. These are located near the processor fan located on the top half of the motherboard. Press down until they snap into place.

    • 4). Close up the computer by replacing the side panel and reinserting the screws. Insert the Windows XP CD and restart the PC.

    • 5). Press any key to boot from CD.

    • 6). Press "Enter" and "F8" to accept the licensing terms and begin the reinstallation.

    • 7). Highlight the drive upon which you wish to reinstall Windows XP (this should be the "C" drive for almost all computers) and press "R." The computer will automatically restart when finished.
