- 1). Make a mark about 1/3 up the wall where you want the double chair rail to be installed. Measure up 3 inches from that mark and down 3 inches from that mark, and draw level lines across the wall at those heights.
- 2). Tape off the area above and below the level lines, and paint the inside with a color that contrasts with the color currently on the wall. Let the paint dry, and remove the tape.
- 3). Nail the picture rail to the wall. Use your level lines to guide you so the picture rail is straight and level. Nail with finishing nails, and counter sink the nails with a nail set.
- 4). Fill your nail holes with caulk, and fill any gaps in between the wall and your picture rail with caulk. Touch up the chair rail with paint or stain to hide the caulk.
