- 1). Determine the size of your DVD case's exterior panel. Typically, most DVD cases are 10.75 inches by 7.1875 inches, but some slimmer variations exist so it's best to measure the case you're attempting to customize before you begin your design.
- 2). Create a new document in Photoshop by selecting "New > Document." Enter the dimensions of your DVD case within the New Document window that appears, then hit "OK."
- 3). Place the spine of your design in the middle of your new document. On a typical DVD case, the spine will measure ½ inch wide. Add any titles or designs to this area.
- 4). Add chapter titles and basic information about the DVD in the space to the left of your spine design as this area will wrap around the back of your CD. If you plan to add any ratings or credits, add these to the bottom of this design area as this is where these elements are typically found on commercial DVD cases.
- 5). Begin adding the elements for your DVD case's front cover design. Be as elaborate or as simple as you like in this area. While many commercial DVDs feature the release's promotional poster as the front design, you can also place your title and a favorite still photo from the production included on your DVD.
- 6). Save your design in your graphics design software. Your design is now ready for you to print on your home computer or send to a professional print shop.
