Windows XP

• 1). Open the "Start" menu, and go to the "Control Panel."
  
  
• 2). Open up "Automatic Updates."
  
  
• 3). Click on the button at the bottom, "Turn Off Automatic Updates."
  
  

Windows 7 and Vista

• 1). Open the "Start" menu, and go to the "Control Panel."
  
  
• 2). Click on "Windows Update."
  
  
• 3). Click on "Change Settings" in the left sidebar.
  
  
• 4). Uncheck all of the boxes, and then choose "Never Check for Updates" from the drop-down menu. Once you hit "OK," you have changed the settings.
