- 1). Choose an area to place the L7780 that is near enough to a power outlet and phone jack that you can plug both the power cord and a phone line into the printer.
- 2). Plug one end of a phone cord into the phone jack, then plug the other end into the port on the back of the printer labeled "1-Line." If you are sharing the phone line with another device, plug the phone cord from that device into the port labeled "2-EXT."
- 3). Press the "Menu" button on the printer's control panel, then use the arrow buttons to highlight "Settings" and press the "OK" button. Use the arrow buttons to select "Fax" and press the "OK" button again.
- 4). Scroll down to "Ring Patterns" and choose the fax ring pattern for your phone service. Not setting the correct ring pattern will cause the fax machine to potentially answer voice calls and not faxes.
- 5). Press the "Menu" button again and select "Settings" and "Fax." Scroll down to "Answer" and press the "OK" button, then scroll to either "Auto Answer" or "Manual Answer," depending on your preference.
- 6). Add number to the speed dial by pressing either the "Individual Speed Dial" or "Group Speed Dial" button. Enter the fax number into the machine and press the "OK" button, then use the keypad on the printer to type in a name for the number and then press the "OK" button again to save the number.
