- 1). Remove the battery and look for any dust or other debris stuck inside the battery compartment. This prevents the battery from sliding in completely, which in turn prevents the battery clip from closing. If the debris is proving stubborn and not sliding out of the camera you can spray a few shots of compressed air to help remove it.
- 2). Check the battery compartment lid to see if the small clip is stuck inside. On occasion the clip does not eject from the lid, preventing it from locking into place when the compartment is closed. Insert a small paperclip or safety pin to slide the clip out of the lid.
- 3). Inspect the battery clip for any cracks or damage. If the clip is completely broken off you need to take it into a camera repair facility as they have the replacement parts required. If the clip is cracked but not completely missing it should be replaced, but for the time being you can close the compartment lid and apply duct tape to keep the compartment door closed.
