- 1). Set two lines over the floor with a snapline, intersecting in the middle, dividing the room into four squares.
- 2). Spread thinset over the middle of the floor with a notched trowel, covering 3 square feet or so in one of the four corners of the intersecting lines.
- 3). Press the first tiles in place in corner of the intersection. Place more tiles around it. Set spacers between them as you lay them.
- 4). Continue spreading mortar and laying tiles, building out to the edges of the room. Keep the tiles on the straight lines initially and then work over the rest of the floor in a grid. Cut the tiles for the edges of the room with a tile cutter, as needed.
- 5). Let the thin set dry for 12 hours. Remove the spacers.
- 6). Press grout into the spaces between the tiles with a grout float, scraping it off the surface as you do. Wipe up the residual grout with a dampened sponge. Let it set 24 hours.
