- 1). Open the "Start" menu and click on "Run." Type "sfc" and press "Enter."
- 2). Select "Extract One File From Installation Disk" and input "c:\windows\system\kernel32.dll" in the "Specify the System File You Would Like to Restore" dialog box.
- 3). Click "Start" and then choose "Browse" next to the "Restore From" area. Browse to "C:\Cabs" for an OEM version of Windows 98. Insert the CD-ROM and browse to "D:\Win98" if you have a retail version of the software.
- 4). Select "OK" and follow the onscreen instructions. Extract the Kernel32.dll file from the CAB file named "Win98_33.cab."
- 5). Restart the computer when the extraction is finished.
