Why You should get Fluorescent Lamps for Home Lighting

When it comes to home lighting solutions, people have a lot of choices these days. Fluorescent lamps are a good choice for home owners, and they are certainly better than incandescent lamps. Why exactly is a fluorescent lamp better than an incandescent lamp? We will give you few points below to help you see why exactly CFL bulbs are more advantageous than incandescent lamps.

1. More energy efficient : A fluorescent lamp is more efficient than an incandescent lamp in terms of the electrical energy it converts into visible light. Given the same amount of energy, a fluorescent lamp will be much brighter than an incandescent one. A fluorescent lamp will utilize 60 to 75% less energy to produce the same amount of light as an incandescent bulb. That is why 15 Watt CFLs or Compact Fluorescent Lamps can produce light that is as bright as 60 or 65 Watt incandescent bulbs.

2. Less heat generation: Much of the electrical energy that an incandescent bulb receives is turned into heat energy; that is one of the reasons why it is less bright than a fluorescent lamp. The low heat generation of the latter makes it better suited for use in the hot Indian climate.

3. More Durable: CFL lamps last for many more hours than incandescent bulbs. In fact, a CFL can last for as long as 4-5 years, while a bulb will be lucky if it manages to last half as long.

4. More Cost effective: Since it utilizes less energy and generates less heat, so that you don't have to use the AC that often, you will save a lot of money on your electricity bills. Moreover, since it is very durable, you will have to replace it less often, and you will save on replacement costs.

5. Aesthetic: Many people say that they prefer to use incandescent lamps for home lighting because these provide light with a €warmer' tone. This objection used to be valid earlier, but now CFLs are available in many different variants; you can now get CFL Bulbs that emit light in different tones, apart from the standard bluish white. Moreover, there are special CFLs that can be used with dimmer switches these days, so you can get any type of fluorescent lamp you want, to suit your interior d©cor and mood.

6. More Eco-friendly: since they are more energy saving, CFL lamps are also more eco-friendly. Most of our energy needs are still met by power generated from non-renewable resources like coal, which moreover release a lot of greenhouse gases in the process of power generation, so it is better to use a home lighting solution which uses less energy.
