- 1). Move your laptop away from any large metal objects in your home or office. These objects reflect and bounce the wireless signal away from your computer, causing a weaker Internet connection.
- 2). Stay out of the basement. Because the basement is under ground level, the wireless signal has to travel through concrete and other solid layers to reach your computer and Wi-Fi card. This reduces the signal strength of your computer.
- 3). Connect a wireless antenna to your Wi-Fi card, if it accepts it. Many cards have an antenna port that allows you to connect an antenna and boost the signal strength. If there is no connection port, it is not possible to hook up an antenna to your card.
- 4). Adjust the antenna just as you would with a television antenna. Moving the antenna around in different directions often helps obtain wireless signals that are further away.
