- 1). Download free software that is capable of ripping a DVD to your computer's hard drive. There are numerous choices out there, and all work about the same way (see Resources). Make sure it will be compatible with your operating system (e.g., Windows, Mac OS X). You will also need to download free iPod converting software.
- 2). Delete any old software and media files that you may already have. The more memory you have available, the faster and more smoothly your DVD rip will go. Old software an interfere with the new software you download.
- 3). Insert your karaoke DVD into the DVD-ROM drive of your computer. Start up your ripping software. A DVD will often show up in the file directory as numerous one-gigabyte files. If given the option, make sure to choose the single file mode when ripping so that you will have one large file instead of lots of small ones.
- 4). Convert the newly ripped file with the iPod converting software. At this point you will name your file, designate a folder for it and have the option to choose audio and video quality. Go with the highest quality your iPod can handle, based on the amount of memory you would like to use. The higher the quality, the more memory the file will take.
- 5). Import the converted file into your iTunes library. You can do this by opening iTunes and dragging the file onto your iPod playlist.
