- 1). Open the Start menu and type "msconfig" into the search box. Press "Enter" to launch the System Configuration window.
- 2). Enter the administrator's username and password if prompted.
- 3). Click the tab labeled "Startup" at the top of the System Configuration window.
- 4). Remove the check-marks beside the programs you would like to prevent from opening when Windows boots. Click "Disable All" to prevent all programs from opening when Windows boots.
- 5). Click "OK" and then restart your computer when prompted. When the computer reboots, the only programs that will automatically load are the ones with check-marks left in tact in the System Configuration settings.
