- 1). Shut down the computer and detach all the cables and components that are connected to the ports on it.
- 2). Close the display. Turn the computer base side up, with the hinged side facing toward you, and locate the battery pack at the top right corner of the base.
- 3). Press the battery-pack release latch and remove the battery pack from the computer.
- 4). Extract the screw from the memory-module compartment cover (just below the battery-pack compartment) and remove the cover.
- 5). Extract the 11 screws from the thermal cover (the cover with the two circular vents on it) and lift the cover off the computer. Locate the heat sink in the corner of the compartment between the two cooling fans.
- 6). Extract the four screws from the heat sink and lift the heat sink out of the compartment. The processor is now exposed.
- 7). Use a flat-blade screwdriver to twist the screw on the processor counterclockwise until it stops.
- 8). Lift the processor straight up off its connector.
- 9). Perform the procedure in reverse order to install an updated processor and assemble the computer.
When installing the processor, be sure to align the corner of the processor with the triangle on it with the matching corner of the connector and tighten the processor by turning the screw clockwise until it stops.
