According to Microsoft, the minimum hard drive requirement is 1.5GB, so it is important to make sure you have enough space available. To check your hard drive space, right click on "My Computer" and choose "Explore" from the menu. Right click on your "C" drive and choose "Properties" to see the available hard drive space.
- 3). Purchase a copy of Windows XP. Be sure to ask about any discounts that might be available before you make your purchase. If you are a student or teacher, you may qualify for an educational discount.
- 4). Back up all of your personal files to an external hard drive or thumb drive. Your computer will be formatted during the installation process. Insert the Windows XP CD in your computer's CD or DVD drive and restart the computer.
- 5). Allow your computer to boot from the Windows XP CD and start the installation process. You will need to supply the license key for the Windows installation, so make sure you have that information available. The license key should be on the back of the Windows XP jewel case.
