- 1). Reinforce the seams of the large box with masking tape. With a pencil, mark on the box a drawbridge with a large window above it, windows on either side and doors. Then cut them out. This will become the castle's keep.
- 2). Cut a rectangular tissue box in half, so that the opening acts as a door and cut out small windows. Cut several pieces of the cardboard into a turret shape, then tape them to the top of the tissue box turret bases. Tape the completed turrets to the front of the keep, one on each side.
- 3). Place newspaper inside a large pizza box before taping it shut to add weight to the base. Tape the keep to the pizza box base. Cut a section from an empty egg carton and tape it under the window above the drawbridge to act as a balcony. Cut a paper cup in half and tape this half over one of the side windows, creating a veranda.
- 4). Draw windows onto two mail tubes--cardboard tubes from inside wrapping paper or kitchen roll work just as well--then cut them out. Decide where on the keep you are going to situate the towers, then tape them in place.
- 5). Fold newspaper to create an arch around the main door. Tape it in place, ensuring the drawbridge can still open and close. Attach a piece of string on each side, running from the arch to the drawbridge.
- 6). Cut a cereal box to create a mezzanine on the top of the keep. Tape it in place and then select a round box or container--a Pringles or peanut tub is ideal. Cut a door and windows in this round tub and tape it to the mezzanine.
- 7). Cover all the joints and seams on the model castle with masking tape, then paint using a gray acrylic paint. Mix a darker gray paint and use a small square sponge to apply this darker shade to the walls, creating a brickwork effect. Cut out a circle of dark grey or black paper, cut it in half and roll each half into a cone shape to attach to the top of the mail tube towers.
