How to Build a Cell Repeater

Things You'll Need

Instructions

Exterior Cell Phone Repeaters

1

Unpack the manufacturer's antenna kit. Thoroughly review instructions, parts and the entire installation process. Becoming familiar with the entire process makes the overall installation easier. For external repeaters, determine the location for the power supply, signal distribution device and the path for any cables which must be connected between the device and the external antenna.
2

Connect the mounting brackets to the outside of the home. Choose the highest location available on the home. Ideally an outside antenna should have an unobstructed line of sight of the nearest cell tower.
3

Fasten the antenna mast to the brackets and then fasten the exterior antenna to the antenna mast. Tighten down all fittings and connections carefully before moving onto the next step.
4

Drill hole in the house siding for the coaxial cable which connects the cell phone repeater to the signal distribution device inside the home. An ideal location for this hole is under the soffit, close to the roof line. A hole in this location leads into the home's attic, which is an ideal location for this signal distribution device and the power supply.
5

Connect the coaxial cable to the exterior antenna and run the antenna wire into the home. Seal the hole with caulk.
6

Install the signal distribution device--or signal amplifier--in the home. Centrally locate the signal amplifier. The signal amplifier operates best when installed in an attic, second floor or first-floor location. Avoid installing the signal amplifier in a basement or near cement and cement block walls.

A Broadband-based Cell Phone Siognal Amplifier

1

Connect the device to the home's broadband Internet connection. Broadband-based cell phone repeaters, such as the Sprint Airave, allow in-home cell phones to make and receive calls via a broadband Internet connection.
2

Locate the cell phone repeater centrally in the home.
3

Connect the cable line between the cell phone repeater and the wireless Internet router. Make the final connection by plugging the device into an outlet.
4

Test the cell phone coverage provided by the cell phone amplifier / repeater in the home.
