- 1). Choose a photograph or picture that you would like to convert to a beaded design. The best designs for beading are simple pictures with clear lines and defined colors. Think smiley face instead of "Mona Lisa," or a crescent moon and a few stars instead of Van Gogh's "Starry Night."
- 2). Place the transparent graph paper on top of the photograph.
- 3). Look at the top left square in the photograph or picture grid. Choose a colored pencil the same color as that grid. If there are two colors (or more), choose the brightest or most dominant color.
- 4). Starting at the top left corner of your blank graph paper, color in a square with your colored pencil.
- 5). Continue coloring in the spaces of your graph paper to correspond with the colors in your picture, until all spaces in your graph paper are filled.
