- 1). Find a model to use for your sketch: a painting, drawing or sculpture of Florence Nightingale. You may wish to study several potential models to find one consistent with your artistic vision.
- 2). Begin with a general outline of the model, sketched lightly in pencil (or ink, if desired). Make sure the proportions of the face and body are accurate.
- 3). Begin to add features and shadowing to your drawing. Add the facial features, hair, clothing and other details as desired. Use light strokes at first, and add depth and shading only when you are satisfied with the initial appearance.
- 4). Go over your drawing with firmer pencil lines, and add as much detail as desired. Try to capture emotion in Nightingale's facial expression.
