- 1). Line up the pieces of metal the way you want them positioned.
- 2). Clamp the steel or iron clamps in the middle of the seam you will eventually weld. This will give you ample space to spot weld the ends of the seam.
- 3). Turn on your welder.
- 4). Position the welding gun or arc welding rod 1/2 inch above one end of the seam. Lower your welding helmet. Either pull the welding gun trigger or tap the arc welding rod to start welding. Allow the spot weld to form for 3 to 5 seconds. Release the trigger and pull the welder away.
- 5). Repeat step 4 for the other end of the seam to complete the spot weld.
- 6). Remove the clamps and run a weld bead along the seam.
