How to Update a Garmin 200 GPS

    Updating the Nuvi 200 Software

    • 1). Go to the webpage for Garmin's WebUpdater Program (see References). Click on the link "Download the latest version of WebUpdater. Select the "Download" link next to WebUpdater if your computer uses Windows XP or a later operating system. Choose the "Legacy Version" download if you use an operating system earlier than Windows XP or Mac for Macintosh users. Click on "Downloads" on the "Update & Downloads" page. Follow the prompts to download and install the program.

    • 2). Insert the small end of your Garmin's universal serial bus (USB) cable into the back of the unit. Place the large end into the USB port on your computer. Install the software for the Nuvi 200 driver when prompted by your computer. Look for the message "Your devices are ready to use" or "Device driver software installed successfully."

    • 3). Find the Garmin WebUpdater on your computer on your desktop. Alternatively, click on the Windows symbol on the bottom left of your computer. Select "All Programs." Click on Garmin and Web Updater. Hit "Next" when WebUpdater appears. Install the program.

    Updating Maps

    • 1). Go to the Garmin homepage (see Resources). Find the "Maps" on the page banner. Choose "Update Maps." Select an update plan. According to Garmin, you can get free maps if you download updates within 60 days after purchasing your unit. Refer to the Maps page for pricing and plan options. Get the map for your continent or region, such as "North America." Purchase the desired subscription.

    • 2). Click on "Add to my device." Connect your Garmin Nuvi 200 to your computer using the procedure described in Step 2 of Section 1.

    • 3). Pick the "Automotive" link on the "Find Map Updates" page. Wait for the maps to download to your unit. If you receive a "Unit already registered to another person" message, follow the directions for "Transfer Registration Name. Click on the link in Resources for the directions. Contact Garmin Support if you have questions or difficulty in removing a prior registration or transferring registration.
