- 1). Visit Microsoft.com to find the version of Genuine Windows Installer Package that you need. The Microsoft website will provide details for each package to help you know which one is right for your computer.
- 2). Click on the "Download Files Below" link and select the files that you wish to download from the list and install.
- 3). Click the link that you need and Microsoft will automatically check the configuration of your Windows-based system.
- 4). Wait until your computer tells you that the download is complete and the "What would you like to do with this file" window opens.
- 5). Click on the "Save file" button and Windows will download the validation tool to your desktop or wherever your downloaded files are saved.
- 6). Click on the downloaded icon and when the "Open file -- Security Warning" window opens, click "Run."
- 7). Windows will extract the files to your computer and a Software Update Installation Wizard window will open. Windows is asking you if you really wish to install the files, click the "I agree" button.
- 8). Windows will open an "Installation Complete" window when it is done. You may need to click "OK," but usually the window will just automatically close.
- 9). In some instances, you may need to restart your computer for the installation changes to take effect. Windows will open another window to tell you if a reboot/restart is necessary.
