- 1). Visit Belarc.com. Hover the cursor over "Free Download," and then click "Download" in the drop-down menu. Belarc Advisor is a free utility that displays the specifications and installed components of a computer. Install Belarc Advisor, update its definitions when prompted and then allow the program to scan the computer. Belarc Advisor will open a new page with its report in a Web browser window. Note the motherboard model and current BIOS version under the heading "Main Circuit Board."
- 2). Visit the website of the motherboard's manufacturer. Navigate to the section of the website for drivers and other downloads. Download the latest BIOS update for the motherboard. Some websites allow the user to click a button to download the BIOS while others have their own download manager. BIOS updates are usually small and should not take long to download.
- 3). Close all applications and then run the BIOS update. The updating process should take a few minutes depending on the manufacturer and the amount of changes made to the BIOS. Wait for the BIOS update to confirm a successful installation and then restart the computer.
