- 1). Abrade nonporous surfaces such as vinyl, fiberglass and plastic to promote adhesion. Scour these surfaces with 220-grit sandpaper until they have a slight grit. Don't sand wood or drywall.
- 2). Coat bare wood, vinyl, fiberglass and plastic surfaces with latex primer, using a roller equipped with a nap cover. Don't prime drywall.
- 3). Take a photo to a local film-processing store and have it converted into an image slide.
- 4). Load the slide into the projector and point it so it casts the picture onto the surface you plan to paint.
- 5). Protect areas you do not want painted by covering them with painter's tape and dropcloths.
- 6). Paint the shapes, patterns or designs using the projected image as a guide. Coat larger, background areas with an acrylic spray paint. Paint details with craft brushes. Wait two hours for the paint to dry.
