About.com Rating
OneNote features many tools, but you will want to check this quick list of how the app offers to help you capture, create, and edit notes.
The following are rated on a scale of Excellent, Good, or Poor.
User Interface, Task Panes, & Views:Â Excellent
The OneNote interface is easy to learn and use. When OneNote is first setup, users can choose standard or customized settings. Plenty of other customizations are available, including settings for the menu, audio, default font, and more, not to mention the wide range of optional apps one can link to, as described on Page 2.
Â
Text and OCR:Â Excellent
The free OneNote app is not equipped with all formatting tools you are used to in a word processor like Word 2013. You can, however, take advantage of Optical Character Recognition technology, which lets you scan or capture an image with text, then have it digitized so it is searchable.

While only available in the Windows version, handwriting features in OneNote are among the best on the note-taking app market.
Images: Excellent
OneNote can capture and attach pictures (as well as files like word processors, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations) to notes.
Audio: Excellent
With OneNote, you can record notes by speaking, then attach them to written notes. You can also listen to your recorded audio notes.
Task Lists, Alerts, and Reminders: Excellent
OneNote is great for creating checkboxed lists and setting reminders.
Notebooks, Tags, and Categories:Â Excellent
OneNote allows users to organize notes in notebooks and by assigning tags and categories.
References:Â Poor
OneNote does not feature specific research tools for creating a bibliography.
Comments:Â Poor
Comments are not available.
Spelling and Grammar Check: Excellent
While no formal spell check tool exists, the automatic spell check can be turned on or off.
Printing, Exporting, and Layout Options: Excellent
Printing and page layout options are simple, which is typical for an app. Depending on the device, you may need to print wirelessly.
