- 1). Remove all components from the DVR receiver box. The user's manual will specify what is needed for the installation and what is in the box. Verify everything listed is accounted for.
- 2). Locate the coaxial RF cable from the satellite and connect it to the back of the DVR receiver where it's labeled "satellite in 1." There are two "satellite in" attachments, and one can be used to connect an off-air antenna if present.
- 3). Find the HDMI-to-DVI cable and connect the HDMI (high definition multimedia interface) end to the receiver at the connection port labeled "HDMI output." Connect the DVI (digital video interface) end to the television at the DVI input jack. If the television features an HDMI input jack, then use an HDMI-to-HDMI cable. If neither of these connections is available, then use the video cable of a standard composite A/V (audio/video) cable that is color-coded yellow.
- 4). Connect the audio using an optical digital audio cable if one is available. Attach the cable to the DVR receiver at the digital audio-out jack and to the television at the digital audio-in jack. If this cable is unavailable, then use a standard red and white color-coded composite A/V cable.
- 5). Insert the access card that was included with the receiver into the access card slot. In order to receive service from DirecTV for the DVR receiver, the access card will have to be inserted into its slot.
- 6). Plug the phone line into its designated slot on the back of the receiver.
- 7). Attach the power cord to the receiver and then to an outlet. If all is connected correctly, there will be a welcome screen that appears on the television. Follow the onscreen setup. DVR receivers are an extra service and must be added to the DirecTV account in order for it to work.
