How to Set the Windows Vista Task Bar

    • 1). Right-click on the taskbar, then click the "Lock the taskbar" option to prevent changes to its appearance or position. If you want to hide the taskbar from view when not in use, right-click the bar and click "Properties." Enable the "Auto-hide the taskbar" option and click "OK."

    • 2). Change the position of the taskbar from the bottom of the screen by clicking and holding on the taskbar, then dragging it to the left, right or top edge of the monitor screen. Release the mouse and the taskbar will remain in that position.

    • 3). Enable the "Quick Launch" option in taskbar "Properties" to allow you to drag and drop program shortcuts directly to the taskbar. Then, drag and drop shortcuts to programs you frequently use so that you can start them to launch the applications without having to browse through the programs in the "Start" menu.

    • 4). Preview open applications by enabling the "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop" option, then clicking the "OK" button. After you enable the option, simply move the mouse cursor over the application icon to see a small window containing the screen's contents.

    • 5). Turn privacy settings for the taskbar on or off by clicking the "Start Menu" tab in the taskbar properties window. Disable the options there to keep others from viewing the documents or applications you recently opened.
