- 1). Fold a square of origami paper in half to make a triangle. Then fold again to make a smaller triangle.
- 2). Unfold the second fold. Hold the triangle so the main point is facing you and the longest line of the triangle is away from you. Take the left corner and spread the corner apart by bringing the left corner to the bottom corner. You are not tearing the paper. You should be making a diamond out of this left side. The folds should allow it to fall into place as you move the paper.
- 3). Flip the paper over (from right to left) so the folds you made are now against the table. Fold the far left corner over the seam to the right. Separate the right corner as you did in Step 2. Bring the right corner to the bottom corner. At the end of this step you should have a diamond.
- 4). Hold the diamond so you see the crease going horizontally. Take just one sheet from the left corner and fold it to the right corner.
- 5). Rotate the paper 90 degrees to the left and lift the fold made in Step 4. Take the left corner and fold it to the right. The bottom edge of this is going to align vertically with the middle crease. You'll want to pull the top flap down to ensure you have a firm crease, but you'll have to re-lift the top flap and bring the left corner in to the left and align the bottom edge with the center crease as you did for the other side. Make sure your creases are made.
- 6). Flip the piece over from left to right and fold the left corner to the right, aligning the bottom edge along the middle crease. Then bring the right corner to the left, aligning the bottom edge with the middle crease. At the end of this step, your shape will look like a kite.
- 7). Unfold the two corners from Step 6, then lift the bottom corner up. Bring the left corner in toward the right. Then bring the right corner to the left. Now you'll have a very thin diamond.
- 8). Hold the diamond vertically with the corner that has tabs at the bottom. Fold the top down to the bottom. Again, you should have a kite.
- 9). Flip the piece from left to right and separate the left corner. As you separate the left corner, bring the bottom corner (the left flap) up to the top. Make a crease.
- 10
Fold the top two parts of the right corner to the left corner and crease. In this step, you shouldn't fold the entire piece in half. There should still be one more right corner that isn't being folded. - 11
Fold the bottom corner to the top corner and make a crease horizontally across. Then fold the left corner to the right corner. - 12
Take the left flap of the top corner and fold it so the top corner is now pointing to the left. You'll do this by starting to bend the corner backwards. You'll need to open up the left corner a little so that the crease is made in between the front and back pieces. - 13
Repeat Step 12 for the opposite side. Now the top right flap will be pointing to the right. - 14
Fold the top left corner toward the right and align the bottom edge along the middle crease. This is a very small fold. Lift up the fold. Then, along the immediate crease, fold to the left. You're going to be making a tucking motion in this fold. Repeat for the opposite side. - 15
Lift the shape in the upper middle, on the left side. Then tuck the top of the "wing" of the flamingo down and under the middle shape. In this step you're basically folding this flap in half going horizontally. Repeat for the opposite side. - 16
Flip the piece going from left to right. Fold the left corner to the right and align the bottom edge with the middle. Repeat for the opposite side. - 17
Lift the center so you can tuck the top corner of the left "wing" under again and fold along the left wing horizontally. Repeat for the opposite side. - 18
Fold the entire piece in half from left to right. Rotate the piece 90 degrees to the right. - 19
Take one of the long flaps, which will be one of the two legs of the flamingo. Separate the flap slightly. Pinch close to the main piece so that the leg goes back, then pinch the leg a little under 1/2 inch to bend the leg forward again. Lastly, make a fold a little under 1/2 inch from the tip so that the point is bent going away from the body. It should look like a bent flamingo leg. For the other leg, just bend less than 1/2 inch from the tip and half the tip point so it's parallel to the body. - 20
Open the body in half, but don't open it completely. Just open it enough so that you can fold the head back. It will fold naturally along a crease at what would be the flamingo's "chest". Bring the top tip down to make a head.
