- 1). Crochet the circle-shaped base of your drawstring bag. Use single crochet stitches in the round to make a sturdy base. To start the round, chain four, join together with a slip stitch and chain one. This counts as your first single crochet. Make eight single crochets in the second stitch from your hook to complete the first round. Mark the beginning stitch with a yarn needle so you know exactly where the round begins.
- 2). Continue crocheting the base of the evening bag. Make two single crochets in each stitch to complete your second round. Chain two to start the third round. Make two single crochets in the second stitch from your hook, one single crochet in the next stitch, and continue the pattern so that every other stitch has two single crochets in it. Increase the amount of single crochet stitches by one for each additional round until you achieve the desired size for the base of the bag.
- 3). Count the number of stitches in the final round of the base of your bag. Divide this number by two to determine the number of chains you need to crochet for each side of the bag. Since the pineapple stitch is worked without turning, you will need to crochet two even sides to complete the bag.
- 4). Crochet the appropriate amount of chains for one side of the bag and begin the pineapple stitch. Draw a loop of yarn through the fourth chain from your hook. Skip the next chain and pull up another loop. Yarn over and pull through all three loops on your hook. Insert your hook into the same stitch that you drew the last loop from, and begin the stitch again. Repeat this until you reach the end of your chain, completing one row of stitches, then cut the yarn and use a yarn needle to weave the excess yarn into the chain.
- 5). Mark the front of your work with a yarn needle, and without turning your work, repeat the process of making rows of pineapple stitches until your bag is the desired height. You can change colors at the end of any row, if you like. Crochet two pieces, for the back and front of your bag. Use a whip-stitch to join the two sides and the base.
- 6). Crochet your drawstring. Make a chain that is as long as you would like your drawstring to be. Single crochet in each chain, then crochet a slip stitch around the edges. Lace your drawstring into evenly spaced crochets around your bag, about 2 inches from the top.
