- 1). Put on the dress that will be receiving the sash. Hold the sash up to the waist of the dress and decide where the sash will need to be placed. Mark the top and bottom of the sash on each side of the waist with the air-soluble marker. You may need to have someone help you if you are wearing the dress.
- 2). Remove the dress and place on a flat work surface.
- 3). Line the sash up with the marks you made. Pin the sash to the dress at the sides and middle of the dress's waist.
- 4). Thread your needle with thread and tie into a knot.
- 5). Sew five stitches on top of each other about a 1/4-inch above the bottom edge of the sash on the right side of the dress. Knot the thread and cut with the scissors.
- 6). Sew stitches about 1/4-inch from the top edge of the sash on the right side. Knot the thread and cut with the scissors.
- 7). Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the middle and the left side of the waist.
