- 1). Flatten the screen and lay it out on a table. Measure it, and if necessary, trim it to a 12- by 24-inch rectangle.
- 2). Measure 2 inches in from the side and 13 inches up from the bottom on each 24-inch side. Cut away the 2 by 13 inch pieces and set them aside. Your wire screen is now shaped like a T that measures 24 inches long, with one end measuring 8 inches by 13 inches and the other measuring 12 inches by 11 inches.
- 3). Measure 11 inches up from the bottom of the narrow end. Using a straight-edge or the edge of a a table or workbench, make a 90-degree bend across the wire at that measurement.
- 4). Make a second 90-degree bend in the same direction at the point where the piece widens from 8 inches to 12 inches (2 inches above the last fold).
- 5). Measure 2 inches in from each side on the wide end of the wire screen and fold the sides up 90 degrees. Your piece now resembles a wire basket that measures 11 inches tall by 8 inches wide by 2 inches deep.
- 6). "Sew" the side panels to the front panel using lengths of wire and the needle nose pliers to pull the wire through the square mesh.
- 7). Trim one of the 2- by 13-inch pieces of screen to measure 11 inches by 1 1/2 inches. Make 90 degree bends 1 1/2 inches from each side edge.
- 8). Attach the lid to the basket using the three split rings as hinges. Add a wire loop to the top of the lid to serve as a hanger.
- 9). Fill the basket with suet. Fasten the lid closed with wire bread bag closures.
