- 1). Find a photo of shrubs to use as a reference throughout your drawing project. Shrubbery comes in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors, so find a photo that you would like to copy for your project.
- 2). Decide how large the shrub should be, based on the dimensions of your drawing. When you decide on the appropriate size, draw a circle on white paper. The circle should be the correct size for the shrub you want to draw.
- 3). Draw a curled line around the exterior top half of the circle. The curls represent leaves and will provide an overall shape for your shrub. Add curled lines to the interior of the circle as well. This will add depth and make the shrub appear more realistic.
- 4). Add underbrush by drawing the curled line on the bottom half of the circle. Draw many lines and layer them to give the effect of depth. You will want the bottom of the shrub to appear more bushy than the top.
- 5). Color the shrub with colored pencils and markers. Add shadowing to the bottom of the shrub and the ground. This area will appear darker because the sunlight does not hit it directly. Alternately, the top of the shrub will appear lighter in color.
