- Connect your iPod to your Mac, and when iTunes starts, click the name of the iPod under the "Devices" tab. Check the box next to "Manually manage songs and videos" and click "Apply." Download a music-copying program such as xTremSoft or Senuti, and install the program. Follow the onscreen instructions to copy your music from your iPod to your Mac. Many of these programs are shareware, which means you'll need to pay a small fee for full access of the software. Each program will copy your music, but some programs offer additional features such as transferring ratings, play counts or playlists.
- Your iPod that is currently formatted for Windows requires a restoration to its original factory settings, which makes it compatible for your Mac. While your iPod is connected to your Mac, click the name of the device under the "Devices" section and click the "Summary" tab. Click the "Restore" button, followed by clicking "OK." A complete restoration will take between 5 to 7 minutes.
- Once your iPod is formatted for your Mac, add your files to your Mac by clicking "File" at the top of the screen in the iTunes window, and click "Add to Library" from the drop-down menu. Locate the folder to which your shareware program saved your music, and hold the shift key to highlight your music. Click the "Choose" button and wait for your music to be added.
