- 1). Determine what kind of two-gigabyte memory chip your cell phone uses. You can do this by checking the specifications of your cell phone in the manual or on the manufacturer's website, or by removing the card and examining it. As of April 2010, the most common kind of memory card used in cell phones is the SD format, which comes in standard, mini, and micro sizes. Your phone may also use the Memory Stick Pro or Pro Mini format. The format type will be printed on the side of the card.
- 2). Purchase a USB adapter for the card you are using, which is available from many different vendors. If your card is in a mini or micro format, make sure that the adapter comes with a sleeve for the card of your size; this allows you to insert a mini or micro card into the sleeve, and changes the card into a standard size for use with the adapter.
- 3). Insert the card into the sleeve, if necessary, then into the adapter. Connect the adapter to a USB port on your laptop. The card will appear on your laptop as if it were a USB drive. When you are finished working with the card on your laptop, you can move it back to your cell phone.
