- 1). Thread the needle with a thread color close to the hat color. Use a thicker needle (like a denim-weight needle) to be able to penetrate the thick material of a hat.
- 2). Measure how much hair you will need for the hat: Place the beginning of the hair extension strip just above your left ear; insert a bobby pin to keep it in place. Wrap the strip around the back of your head, ending just above your right ear. Place a bobby pin above the right ear to keep the entire strip in place. Cut any of the extension that passes the right ear.
- 3). Place the hair extensions around the inside of the hat. To keep the hair extension in place, push four straight pins through the hair and into the hat.
- 4). Tie a small knot at the bottom of the thread. Begin sewing the hair to the hat from the inside. Push the needle through the hair and through the outside of the hat.
- 5). Pull the sting taut. Insert the needle into the hat (about one quarter of an inch from the first stitch) and pull it through the back of the hat through the hair. Continue doing this until the whole extension is sewn to the inside of the hat.
- 6). Tie the thread into a knot from the inside of the hat. Pull the straight pins out of the hat and put the hair hat on.
