- 1). Dip the corner of a folded cloth in lacquer thinner.
- 2). Swab an inconspicuous area of the washer to gauge the effect of the lacquer thinner on the exterior paint before attempting to remove contact cement. If the solvent removes some of the appliance paint, your options are either to retouch the paint or live with the contact cement dried on the washer.
- 3). Scrub the dried contact cement with the cloth dipped in lacquer thinner until the cement begins to soften and dissolve.
- 4). Wipe away the residue with a clean cloth.
- 5). Touch up any marred exterior surface with the appliance paint. Cleaning cement from the interior steel drum of the washer should have no effect on the surface.
