- 1). Place a soft cloth on a table. Stand the first-generation 30 GB Zune on the soft cloth with the bottom facing up.
- 2). Insert the tip of a flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver into the crease between the bracket and the bottom of the Zune. Lift up on the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver to raise the bracket up. Pull the bracket off the case with your fingers. Place the bracket aside for reassembly later.
- 3). Remove the two screws that are now revealed on the bottom case with a Phillips jeweler's screwdriver. Place the screws aside for reassembly later.
- 4). Place the Zune on the soft cloth face down with the control buttons closest to you.
- 5). Place the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver into the crease between the front and back case at the lower right corner. Move the tip up the length of the Zune to the upper right corner.
- 6). Move the tip across the width of the Zune to the upper left corner. Move the tip down the length of the Zune to the lower left corner. Move the tip across the width of the Zune to the lower right corner.
- 7). Pull the back case off the front with your fingers.
- 8). Place the tip of the flat-edged jeweler's screwdriver beneath the battery cable's plug that is connected into the circuit board at the upper left corner of the Zune. Lift up on the tip to release the plug. Pull the plug out with your fingers.
- 9). Count to 30. Reinsert the plug into the circuit board. Place the back case onto the front case. Push down on the sides of the back case to re-engage it to the front case.

Stand the Zune on the soft cloth with the bottom facing up. Reinsert the two screws. - 11
Place the bracket back onto the bottom. Push down on the bracket to reengage it to the bottom.
