- xD-Picture Cards are most often produced in two sizes: 1 GB and 2 GB. While they can be purchased in smaller capacities such as 512 MB, the format isn't currently capable of larger capacities. The extra gigabyte can be quite useful for professional or semi-professional photography.
- A standard xD-Picture Card is called a "Type M" model. A newer version of the card was released, called "Type M+," and is 1.5 times faster than Type M. Both models are available in 1 GB and 2 GB sizes, and are completely compatible with devices that use xD-Picture Cards. The extra speed of a Type M+ can be useful when shooting in bursts or recording video.
- As of 2010, a 2 GB Type M card is around $10, while a 2 GB Type M+ card is around $15. These memory cards can be purchased from most large electronics retailers.
