- 1). Download the most up-to-date firmware for the P171 Samsung DVD player. The firmware can be downloaded at the Samsung website.
- 2). Go to the folder that contains the downloaded file, which is usually the "Downloads" folder on the "C:" drive. Right-click the firmware file and choose "Extract All" to unpack the contents from the zipped file. Once extracted, insert a CD into your computer's CD-burning drive, open the CD-burning program you use to burn data discs on your computer, load the extracted files to the project and burn the files to disc.
- 3). Power on the Samsung player, and place the CD with the firmware files into the player. The DVD player automatically recognizes the firmware files and installs them to the unit.
- 4). Remove the CD from the P171 unit once the files stop transferring onto the player. Turn the player off and back on.
- 5). Press the "Subtitle" button on the remote that came with your Samsung P171 DVD player. Then, enter the code "29334" on the remote.
- 6). The words "Region Code" display on the screen. Press the "9" button on the remote. This selects "multizone" or "region-free" as the DVD player setting, allowing the unit to read discs from any region.
- 7). Press the "Subtitle" button again to make the change take effect. Reboot the player by powering it off and then back on.
