How to Activate Shortcut Keys on a HP Keyboard

    Download and install HP Quick Launch

    • 1). Open a Web browser and navigate to the HP.com Support website.

    • 2). Click the "Support & Drivers" link from the top navigation bar of the HP.com home page.

    • 3). Select the radio button next to the "Download Drivers and Software (firmware)" option. The Search text box will become active.

    • 4). Type the name of the model of HP computer to be updated in the search box.

    • 5). Click the "HP Quick Launch Buttons" link on the Driver Download page.

    • 6). Click the "Save" button to save the file to the hard drive.

    • 7). Click the file to install the HP Quick Launch utility to the computer.

    • 8). Click the "Finish" button when presented to end the installation.

    Set shortcut keys

    • 1). Right-click on the desktop and select "New" from the context menu.

    • 2). Select the "Folder" option to create a new folder on the desktop.

    • 3). Highlight the "New Folder" text and type "Shortcut Keys" into the "Folder Name" text box.

    • 4). Open the new folder by clicking on it.

    • 5). Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Explore" to open a second instance of Windows Explorer.

    • 6). Navigate to the file, folder or program for which a shortcut will be created.

    • 7). Right-click on the file, folder or program and select "Send To".

    • 8). Select "Desktop (Create Shortcut)" from the context menu.

    • 9). Right-click on the newly created shortcut on the desktop and select "Properties" to open the Properties window for the shortcut.

      Type the shortcut key or key combination into the input box labeled "Shortcut Key:" and then click "OK". Key combinations may be found in the Resources section of this article.

      Drag and drop the shortcut into the Shortcut folder to keep HotKeys organized.

      Test the configured keyboard shortcut by pressing the key combination defined in the Shortcut Properties window. If the file, folder or program opens as expected, the Shortcut Key has been successfully set.
