How to Troubleshoot a Dell Travel Mouse With Bluetooth Technology

    • 1). Check the batteries. If the lights on your mouse suddenly go out, you probably have dead batteries. Replace the AA batteries in the mouse and then power it on again.

    • 2). Make sure that the SetPoint mouse-management program has been installed and is activated. In order to use your Mouse's wireless programs it must be managed by the SetPoint program, which came with your mouse when first purchased. Look for the SetPoint software in your system tray and make sure its status is set to active. If it is not, double click on it to launch the system window and then reactivate the software. If you do not see the SetPoint software, reinstall it using the CD that was included with your mouse.

    • 3). Use a different USB port for the mouse adapter. Even if your computer is Bluetooth-enabled, the adapter will need to be used to ensure mouse accuracy. If the mouse suddenly stops responding, the USB port you were using may have lost power or been damaged. Try plugging it into a different port.

    • 4). Clean the bottom of the mouse. The Dell Travel Mouse With Bluetooth uses an optical lens to control pointing, and if this optical lens gets dirty, erratic movement can result. Use a soft cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol to gently wipe away any dirt or particulates on the bottom of the mouse.

    • 5). Check Bluetooth stack settings. If your computer is having problems recognizing the Bluetooth mouse (and you have already checked the software) there may be a conflicting Bluetooth stack. To modify your stack settings, right click the Bluetooth icon in your system tray and then select "Options". If you see an "About" menu, click on it and select "Bluetooth stack for Windows by Toshiba." If an "Advanced Configuration" option is there, click on "Widcomm Bluetooth Software." Different submodels of the Dell Travel Mouse with Bluetooth (which are not readily identifiable by serial number) use different stacks, which is why the process varies slightly.
