- 1). Clean the bamboo. Use a damp rag and three drops of mild dishwashing liquid to wipe away all dust, dirt and grime. Saturate the rag with water. Put the soap on the rag, working it into the rag before wiping down the bamboo.
- 2). Mix a weak solution of oxalic acid and water. Wearing your gloves, combine 1 gallon of hot water with 12 oz. oxalic acid crystals in the plastic bucket. Use the solution while it is hot.
- 3). Scrub the stained area of the bamboo with the brush. The rust should come away fairly quickly and easily.
- 4). Rinse the area of the bamboo with plenty of water. This will remove any remnants of the solution from the bamboo.
- 5). Dry the bamboo using a clean, dry rag. Once the wood is completely dry, decide whether or not to refinish it.
