- 1). Pour white distilled vinegar in a pot. Place your stained paint brush in the vinegar. Make sure the vinegar completely covers the bristles. Let it sit for one hour. Place the pot on the stove and simmer the brushes in the vinegar for five minutes. Rinse any loose paint and leftover vinegar off of the brushes under a faucet of hot water.
- 2). Soak your paint brushes in a citrus-based solvent if the vinegar did not remove all of the paint stains. Rinse the paint brush off with hot water.
- 3). Fill a coffee can with paint thinner if any paint remains on the brush. Swish the bristles around in the paint thinner for three to five minutes to release the remaining paint. Wipe off the bristles on the edge of the coffee can and then dry with a white cloth.
