- 1). Obtain free barcode-generating software from any of these websites: Barcode Generator, Barcoding or Barcode Soft. View the different types of barcodes presented in the program interface and click on the type that you wish to use.
- 2). View the interface and enter the data that you want to encode in the appropriate space. Click on the "Generate Barcode" button to generate the barcode image. Right-click on the image and select "Save Image As" to save the image in your computer.
- 3). Open the software program with which you are designing your ID card. Find the spot in the card layout where you want to embed the barcode. Paste the barcode image onto the card layout, either with the copy-and-paste command available when you right-click on the barcode image, or with the "import" command in the software program.
- 4). Finish designing the ID card. Save the completed card design in your computer and print the card. Save the ID card design in a flash drive in case you want a commercial printer to print the card.
