Hoover F5914-900 Instructions

    Prepping the F5914-900

    • 1). Remove the clean solution tank -- the upper tank -- from the unplugged Hoover SteamVac. Set the machine upright, then push down on the tank's handle and pull it out.

    • 2). Turn the tank's lid counterclockwise to remove it. Turn the lid over so you can use it to the measure cleaning solution. Fill the lid to its fill line, then pour it into the tank. Fill the tank to its fill line with hot water from the tap.

    • 3). Place the lid back on the clean solution tank, then turn it clockwise until it locks. Set the tank back in place on the cleaner, then push the handle inward until it snaps into place.

    Cleaning the Carpet

    • 1). Prepare the flooring before using the Hoover F5914-900. Vacuum carpets or upholstery, move furniture that stands in the way of the area you wish to clean and pretreat stains. Hoover recommends using its spot and stain remover for stain pretreatment.

    • 2). Plug the Hoover SteamVac into a grounded outlet. Select "Lo" or "Hi" for your cleaning speed, then move the cleaner to an appropriate starting point -- farthest away from the door or from the path to the sink.

    • 3). Lower the handle by stepping on the release pedal, then turn the machine on.

    • 4). Depress the Hoover's trigger as you push it forward. Cleaning solution will spray over the carpet. Pull the machine back toward you, over the same section of carpeting, keeping the trigger depressed. For extremely dirty sections of carpeting, push the Clean Surge button, located on top of the handle, to release extra cleaning solution.

    • 5). Let go of the trigger and push it forward, then pull backward, over the same section. This will suck up the dirty cleaning solution. Continue going over the section to suck up solution until little to no water can be seen passing through the dirty water tank lid.

    • 6). Move the Hoover F5914-900 over so that you overlap the previously cleaned section by 1 inch, and perform the same process, going over the carpet with cleaner, then suctioning the dirty solution. Continue until you've cleaned the entire floor.

    Emptying Machine

    • 1). Unplug the machine and remove the clean solution tank in the same manner as you did to fill it. Pour the leftover solution into a sink, rinse the tank and set it aside.

    • 2). Press the pedal to release the handle, and lower the handle to the floor. Turn the latches on either side of the dirty water, or recovery, tank outward.

    • 3). Remove the recovery tank from the machine and lift the back portion of its lid to take it off. Pour the water into a sink.

    • 4). Rinse the recovery tank, then replace the lid. Place the lid's front side under the tabs on the tank, then lower the back of the lid into place. Turn the latches back inward to secure the tank.

    • 5). Set the cleaner back upright and replace the clean solution tank in the same manner as when you first filled it.
