- 1). Shut down your computer and close the lid. Remove all power and data cables, including mice, USB drives, and SD cards. Flip the computer over.
- 2). Slide the battery lock to the "unlocked" position. Remove the battery; you may need to push from the opposite side above the keyboard.
- 3). Use your screwdriver to remove the hard drive access panel; the hard drive panel has an icon shaped like a cylinder. Set the panel aside.
- 4). Remove the screws holding the hard drive in place. Gently slide the drive away from the power and data sockets. Set the drive aside.
- 5). Insert the new drive into the power and data sockets. There's only one way that the drive will fit. Screw the drive into place, then replace the access panel and screw it down.
- 6). Replace the battery and slide the battery lock to the "locked" position. Flip the computer over. You are now ready to reinstall Windows or another operating system.
