- 1). Clean the garage floor before applying paint to the surface. Completely empty your garage. Use your household broom to sweep the corners and your push broom to sweep the large areas.
- 2). Fill your 2-gallon bucket with 1 gallon of warm water and add the package of floor cleaner. Pour enough cleaner from the bucket directly on grease and oil spots. Allow to soak for at least 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, add a little more cleaner on the spots and use a scrub brush to remove any stubborn stains.
- 3). Pour the rest of the cleaner from the bucket directly onto the floor. Use your push broom to spread it around the entire floor. Rinse the floor, being careful to not soak the walls.
- 4). Fill any small cracks or holes in the floor with caulking. Cut the pointed end off the tube of caulk and place it in the caulking gun with the tip pointing out. Apply the caulking and smooth it out with your fingertip or a putty knife. Allow the floor and the caulking to completely dry.
- 5). Open the small can of epoxy and the larger can of paint. Add the epoxy to the paint and stir with a paint stick until it becomes one solid color. Add the optional package of anti-skid granules to the mixture if you choose to use it. Use your paint stick to completely stir the mixture until it becomes one solid color.
- 6). Use your paint brush to cut in the edges of floor by the walls, where your roller can't reach. Start in a far corner closest to the inside entrance of the house. You will work your way out of the garage through the garage doors. You can completely cut in one side of the garage at a time.
- 7). Pour some of the epoxy into the paint tray after you have cut in the floor along the edges. Attach the roller to the roller frame, and attach the frame handle to the paint pole.
- 8). Dip the roller pad into the paint tray and completely saturate the roller pad. Dip it and roll forward in the pan, then repeat until the roller pad is covered. Make sure that the pad is not dripping when you lift it out of the tray.
- 9). Roll the paint over the outer edge where you first cut in the floor. The key to using epoxy paint is to only roll forward. In one motion, place the roller pad on the floor and push it forward, then lift the roller. Repeat this process across the floor, rolling into the edge of the previously painted area.
- 10
Keep the roller saturated. Do not let the paint become too thin on the roller pad. You can roll no more than two times before needing to dip the roller pad back into the paint. - 11
Roll a 3-foot by 3-foot section at a time. Get a handful of the paint chips and sprinkle them directly onto the wet paint. Spread the paint chips evenly without creating thick areas. After you have spread the chips, roll another section and add more chips. - 12
Complete this process across the entire floor, working your way out of the garage. After the first side of the garage is complete, proceed to the second half and repeat the painting steps.
