- 1). Download and install the latest version of the Blackberry Desktop Manager (see Resources).
- 2). Open the "Control Panel" from the "Start" menu and double-click on "Phone and Modem Options."
- 3). Click the "Modems" tab, choose "Standard Modem," then click "Properties."
- 4). Click the "Change Settings" button and select the "Advanced" tab.
- 5). Type +cgdcont=1,"IP","<Device Internet APN>" in the "Extra initialization commands" field. Substitute <Device Internet APN> for the APN provided by the cell service provider. This information may be available on their website or over the phone. See Resources for a short list of cell service provider APN names.
- 6). Click "OK" on the dialogue boxes to save the changes and proceed to section 2.
- 1). Download and install the latest version of the Blackberry Desktop Manager (see Resources).
- 2). Open the "Start" menu and type "Network" (without the quotes) in the search bar. Select the link to the "Network and Sharing Center."
- 3). Click on the link to "Set up a connection or network" and select "Set up a dialup connection."
- 4). Enter the proper "phone number" code according to the type of network utilized by the BlackBerry to connect to the Internet. This information is available from the cell service provider and is indicated by the network name displayed on the device. GPRS or EDGE users type *99#. UMTS users type *98# and EVDO users type *777. Click "Next" once the proper code is entered.
- 5). Enter the username and password given by the cell service provider. This information is typically available via the manufacturer's website or by calling the manufacturer.
- 6). Type "BlackBerry" as the "Connection Name," and click "Dialing Rules."
- 7). Select the profile created in section 1, if applicable, and press "OK."
- 8). Click "Connect" to open the Internet connection.
- 1). Plug the BlackBerry device into the laptop via the USB cable provided.
- 2). Launch the BlackBerry Device Manager software from the "Start" menu or the desktop icon.
- 3). Wait for the connection status in the Desktop Manager to verify that the device is connected.
- 4). Press the Windows key and "R" key simultaneously, and type "ncpa.cpl" (without quotes) to open the "Network Connections" window.
- 5). Double-click on the newly created connection, "BlackBerry," enter the username and password if necessary and click "Dial" to connect to the Internet.
