- 1). Sprinkle a few flakes of fish food into the fish tank. If the flakes seem large, crush them in your fingers just a bit before dropping them into the tank. Only put in enough for the fish to eat within five or ten minutes. If it is gone sooner, you can add a little more.
- 2). Scoop out the extra fish food with a net if it is not gone within ten minutes. If you scoop out a lot, remember for next time so you don't feed the minnows quite as much. Soon, you will know exactly how much to give the minnows at each feeding.
- 3). Clean out any extra food that has fallen to the floor of the tank every two or three days. If you leave it in there too long, algae can grow on the floor of the tank. If the food is loose on the bottom of the tank, use your net to stir it up and catch the food. If it has stuck to the bottom, wipe a soft clean sponge along the tank floor to loosen and remove it.
