- 1). Fish a spinnerbait with a slow to medium speed retrieve when using a lure. Maintain a tight line while fishing the spinnerbait.
- 2). Hold your fishing rod at a 45 degree angle or just below while retrieving the spinnerbait lure.
- 3). Reel down on the line when a fish strikes the spinnerbait. Turn the reel handle to take up any slack in the line.
- 4). Raise the rod tip at the same time you are reeling down on the line to help set the hook securely.
- 5). Reel the line in as the fish is worked toward you. Lower the rod tip as the fish begins to approach the surface of the water to reduce the chances of it jumping and potentially throwing the hook.
