- 1). Mix plaster and water in the aluminum pan until the combination fills 1 inch of the pan. The plaster mixture must be bubble-free and should have a consistency similar to cake batter.
- 2). Place sections of three wooden dowels (approximately 2 to 3 inches in length) in the plaster. These will help align the two halves of the mold while making worms.
- 3). Cover the plastic worm with Vaseline or vegetable oil and place it in the pan. Make sure that half of the worm is submerged by lining up the worm's seam with the plaster. Repeat this step with additional plastic worms if you have space.
- 4). Remove the worm(s) after the plaster has hardened.
- 5). Lay strips of aluminum foil along the edges of the hardened plaster and tuck the bottom edge of the foil between the plaster and the aluminum pan. Coat the foil, the dowels, and the entire exposed surface of the hardened plaster with Vaseline or vegetable oil.
- 6). Again cover the plastic worm(s) with a thin coat of Vaseline or vegetable oil and return them to their original places in the hardened plaster.
- 7). Pour a 1-inch layer of the plaster mixture over the hardened plaster and wait 25 to 45 minutes for the second plaster layer to harden.
- 8). Remove the plaster mold from the aluminum pan. Insert the tip of the flat-head screwdriver between the two sections of the plaster mold as delineated by the strips of aluminum foil. Twist the screwdriver gently to begin separating the two halves. Repeat this action with the screwdriver around the edge of the mold until the halves separate completely. Remove the plastic worm(s) from the mold.
- 9). Use a knife to carve a semi-circular hole into the edge of the plaster mold sections above each worm imprint in the plaster. You will use these holes for pouring molten plastic into the mold.
- 10
Let the mold dry overnight, then coat the entire mold with sealant. Make sure you clean any excess sealant out of the worm imprint to avoid imperfections. - 1). Place the desired quantity of plastic in a metal pan. Stirring frequently, slowly heat the plastic until the it has the consistency of light syrup
- 2). Add coloring or glitter to the molten plastic as desired. Stir the coloring or glitter into the plastic.
- 3). Pour the molten plastic into your homemade mold or a suitable commercial mold. Make sure you completely fill the worm imprint with plastic.
- 4). Remove the newly formed worm(s) after three minutes. Place the worm(s) in a shallow pan of water or on the counter to cool.
- 5). Trim any excess plastic off the new worm(s).
